Kindness at MPCS

Kindness is one of the many roots cultivated at Mountain Phoenix Community School.

“Acts of kindness can make the world a happier place for everyone. They can boost feelings of confidence, being in control, happiness and optimism. They may also encourage others to repeat the good deeds they've experienced themselves – contributing to a more positive community.”

At Mountain Phoenix Community School (MPCS), kindness isn’t just our celebrated virtue for September, kindness is weaved through the core of our school culture. It’s vital that education touches the heart of children to ensure a wider spread opportunity to learn first-hand about what it means to care for others. Our school’s curriculum, inspired by the Core Principles of Public Waldorf Education, is designed to not only nurture academic growth, but also emotional intelligence. Through thoughtful lessons and group activities, we strive to teach students the power of empathy, the importance of active listening, and the joy of lending a helping hand. What children learn through actions, organically becomes their own.

Beyond the classroom, MPCS encourages community service and outreach. The lower and upper school classes can be found spending time at local assisted living homes experiencing the impact that kindness can have on others. Early childhood classes take nature walks where they practice ‘leave no trace’ and our third grade classes take field trips to a local farm where they volunteer their services as farm hands as they learn about taking care of the land and animals. Being kind to the earth is extending compassion to all living creatures with each gesture.

Parents and caregivers also play an integral role in this culture of kindness at Mountain Phoenix. They are encouraged to be actively involved in their child’s experience. By modeling open and respectful communication with teachers and staff, staying abreast of class happenings, volunteering at the school, and attending events and festivals, a supportive network and understanding is being created. This sense of unity will stretch far beyond the school’s walls.

Ultimately, the roots of compassion and goodwill that is fostered at Mountain Phoenix Community School is a cultivation of the love that we, as a village, have for our children, school and community. Through the dedicated educators, parents/caregivers and students, this school is a shining example of how kindness can shape a brighter future for all.
