Last year’s “Scarves with Heart” project distributed 60 scarves, handcrafted by MPCS families, into the broader community. Many were placed in parks with a note attached; “I’m not lost. If you’re stuck out in the cold, please take this to keep warm.” Others were given to the Wheat Ridge Police Department to distribute into the community.
Let’s do it again! Like St. Martin, a kind-hearted knight who cut his cloak in two and gave half to a cold beggar, we too can share the warmth of our amazing school community with others. We will be distributing our community’s creations on Martinmas, Saturday, November 11 (look for the Parentsquare sign up in late October). You can count any time you spend on materials and knitting as volunteer time. .
Join us Tuesdays at 8:30a, (October 10, 17, 24, and November 7) in the Resource Room (downstairs in the main office building) to knit and enjoy getting to know some other parents! You can optionally RSVP to the first gathering in ParentSquare just so we know how many people are participating. But of course, you are also welcome to show up to any of the dates!
Don’t know how to knit? No problem! We’ll have needles, yarn, and willing teachers available to get you started. Young children welcome.
We encourage you to start knitting, crocheting or sewing at home! Please drop completed scarves and hats in the Main Office, in the Scarves with Heart donation basket before November 8.
A standard adult scarf is usually 6-9″ wide and 5′ long. Hats from 22-24″ in circumference fit most adults. Here are some useful links – Scarf Length, Easy Scarf Knitting Patterns, No Sew Scarf
